Our second stop was at Beacon Vlei near Howick.
Beacon Vlei has become our official happy place. We accidentally visited here in May and had such a great time we planned our whole November trip around it. It truly is bass fishing heaven in the beautiful KZN Midlands.
Once again we had a fantastic visit, catching at least 30 fish daily. Here’s some of the evidence…
This time it was summer and we could actually have a braai outside at night. While sitting there we kept hearing fish so we tried our hand at some night fishing with great success. They were hitting top water poppers and frogs and even slow dark flukes with amazing regularity. So much fun!
Beacon Vlei has quite a few stunning options as accommodation but we stayed in the Boat House. It’s really close to the water with an inlet to easily launch. We also met Cadbury the resident cat (real name is Boysie but we decided on Cadbury before we knew that). He would visit each morning and evening and sometimes waited for us to return from sessions on the boat.
And off course we ventured outside once or twice to frequent the local pub. We found it to be the Bierfassl in Nottingham Road. It’s here that Martin discovered that the local brewery has a range a craft beer. So naturally we stayed a while…
Summary
Another fantastic visit to Beacon Vlei, we are already booking our next one, probably in February. Great fishing, great accommodation and great surrounds. Our idea of a perfect getaway.
